If you haven't already read it, you must check out MountainGoat's insightful post on "The Ties that Bind Us". It's so dead on you will have to stop and catch your breath after reading it. And then go back and read it again!
I have gone back to reread it several times. It's all so true.
He says: "When walking through your house are you always within 3 feet of something cycling related?" The concept of a Bike Room is lost on me. Over here, it's a Bike House.
The line that really got me: "Do you get bummed out about getting sick, not because you feel horrible, but because you may miss the next ride?"
So my question to MountainGoat is, "What, you don't ride when you're sick?"
And the scary part is, I'm only half kidding! It's taken me a long time to "learn" that I will get well much faster if I skip a ride or workout when I am sick... is that sick?

I have learned that riding when sick or injured is not always the best idea. My MTB season this year was pretty short because I tried to tough it out and ignore the pain.
You are so right. I too have been toughing it out all season. I would be doing so much better now if I had taken the season off. Now I am in a place I did not want to be.
I actually though your post was referring to being sick with a cold, not an injury, but I guess it applies either way! And I was kidding...well... mostly kidding! ;-)
Either way, it's the same. Although a cold usually isn't much of a problem to ride with. It's those tendencies to ride with things like a bad sore throat or stuff a little worse than your common cold.
BTW, I just read your post to a friend over the phone who said it was "great". She said it reminded her of her old boyfriend in California. He recently coached a high school mt biking team, in addition to living and breathing mt. bikes for years.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Rachael inspired me for the idea. We were talking last week about how people get finished with a race season and don't want to ride their bike anymore for awhile.
Could you even comprehend not wanting to ride a bike? I can't.
maybe they are also sick of traveling, that might be part of it? at the end of the season I am really tired of packing and travelling every weekend. or they don't like to ride in the cold weather.
no, the desire to ride is always there for me. even though I don't ride much when it gets cold, I don't tolerate the cold very well.
