The Cicadas are here!

I saw some cicadas tonight on my road ride! They were clinging to the smaller trees on Sheridan Road near Tower, in Winnetka. The trees I saw had a few here and there, definitely not swarms yet. The early ones are risking not finding a mate - they might get eaten long before they find the One!

It's possible some of the ones I saw onn the trees from the road were really just shells, and that the actual cicada had left the shell. When I got up close, I noticed one guy with deep red beady eyes that was halfway out of his shell. I stared right at him but there was no sign that he noticed. Then again, I just looked like another bug with my riding glasses and my helmet on....

I went out tonight with a flashlight and didn't see any right outside my house, but I think they'll be there soon. I'm wondering if they will be out up at the 12 Hours of Gears race tomorrow? I hope not. Give me a Clif Blok over a cicada for race food anyday!
