At the Back in VeloNews

I read Maynard Hershon's At the Back column in the new June 25 VeloNews today. It is titled "Bygone Bootcamp". He notes how the new road riders today, with all the top-notch gear, have him fooled until he sees them riding. He points out the difference between riders in previous years who were taught the rules of riding, and these new riders who act clueless not because they are stupid, but because no one has taught them the rules.

I think everyone, road or otherwise, should read this article! The new riders could get a start on learning something about the rules of cycling and the basis for the rules. Many of us, myself included, could get a much-needed refresher course on the rules. Since I am now officially slow and seldom go on fast group rides like I once did, I have gotten rusty. And even those who know all this stuff backwards and forwards could get a reminder to help someone else they know learn how to ride better by passing along some of the things that are second nature to them but not obvious to someone new.

And lastly, next time someone teases me for wearing knee warmers when it's 69.5 degrees out, I will point them to this article!!
