More on the Evanston Crit

Here is the link to the web site for the Evanston Crit. I can't wait, that is gonna be a fun day! So glad there is not a WORS race that Sunday.

They have a sponsorship recruitment page extolling the virtues of Evanston. They also have a couple of paragraphs about bike racing and bike racers. Did you know that we are more self-confident, and interested in wellness, the outdoors, and environmental issues? Here is what they have to say about bike racing:

Bicycle Racing Fans and the Race Itself
The global bicycle industry is estimated to have total retail sales in excess of $20 billion (from a 2001 report) with the U.S. bicycle industry generating sales totaling $5.89 billion in 2000. In addition to riding for both pleasure and transportation, Americans are showing a growing interest in cycling events.

Bicycle racing events typically attract a higher income, younger, college-educated audience that dovetails neatly with Evanston’s demographic profile. Cyclists and bike racing fans tend to be self-confident and more interested in wellness, the outdoors and environmental issues.

Cycling events — somewhat like stock car races — are well suited to sponsors in part because cycling teams are identified by their sponsors’ names. Sponsors’ logos and messages appear throughout the course on banners and in the race announcer’s commentary over the public address system.
