Audacity
I was out riding at about 7:40ish pm (definitely still light out, but starting to fade) on a part of Green Bay Road south of Ravinia. I had two blinkies on in back, two lights on in front. This part of the road is kind of narrow because of a planter in the median that takes up a lot of space. This means cyclists have to either ride in the gutter or on the very edge of the pavement. I was concentrating on riding this fine imaginary line when I heard a loud honk behind me. I just about jumped out of my skin. If that wasn't unnerving enough, the gigantic black SUV with livery (limo) plates that honked at me accelerated and proceeded to turn right directly in front of me. I had to slam on the brakes! Arrrgh!! It was such an aggressive move and so stupid I was dumbfounded for a moment, then angry. I almost wish I had had the presence of mind to ride after him and yell at him. It reminds me of a post Goat made back in July.

I hate that section, especially coming south. Unfortunately, if you're in a group ride, it's even sketchier, because some idiot always ends up fighting for space with a car, just aggravating the natives ...
That kind of stuff makes me want to carry one of those emergency hammers that break car glass. Just a little tap would give me a ton of satisfaction. I am still looking for the black Honda that grazed my shoulder by the Temple on Sheridan. No need for that since it has 2 lanes. Glad that you were able to stop.
That section would be terrible in a group ride - one of the worst I can think of around here.... putting that planter median there makes no sense.
Holly- there's plenty of room by the temple, you wouldn't be expecting them to come so close, that must have really freaked you out!! one time some Harley riders tapped me on the butt (on purpose), that really unnerved me.
That happened to me recently on Lake Drive. Some Jack*** kids drove by and honked right behind us and I jumped out of my skin and almost wiped out. They just laughed and cruised on by. If my husband was with me us believe me he would chase the car down and most likey beat them up well, maybe say some nasty things at them. I should carry a large squirt gun.
Christine- I hate when that happens! Lake Drive is really similar to Sheridan Road, where we ride. In the last two years I have been getting a lot more of those car fulls of kids waiting until they get right behind me, then screaming, trying to scare me.
Lately I also have had a lot of them scream "use the sidewalk". And it's not like I'm in the middle of the road.
One time some high school tennis players threw lots of tennis balls at a group of us. The lone guy in our group rode after them and chased them.
